Walkman vs. iPod

Posted by: calabrog In: User Experience

This is a great little article from the BBC that describes how quickly technologies can change and what impact they have on experiences.  This little boy was asked to exclusivley use a walkman for 1 week instead of his iPod.  I can still remember the days of Appetite for Destruction on my Walkman….memories.

Posted by: calabrog In: Bizzare| User Experience

I read this and it freaked me out a bit. I beautiful family, minding their own business, with family photos, managed to become a billboard in Czech Republic! Social Sharing gone awry!

A news release from Nielsen Online is reporting amazing growth in social networking. You can read the release here.

What do you get when you pull together e-mail, instant messaging, blogging, photo aggregation, and any other means of collaborating or communicating with anyone? My first thought was pure hell… but once I saw this…. wow.

Associated Press Search Landing Pages

Posted by: calabrog In: User Experience

The Editors Weblog spoke to the AP’s director of strategic planning Jim Kennedy to find out more clearly what the AP’s search plans entail and what their implications are.  Would I be a complete jackass if I admit finding this article via Google News?  I think there are two flawed assumptions in Jim Kennedy’s thinking.

  1. “AP believes that currently, the mechanisms provided to consumers for news searching are inadequate.”  Wonderful.  Do audiences agree?  When I’ve tested panels they don’t seem to have any problem with aggregators and quite enjoy using them.  Can experiences be made better?  Sure.  Inadequate?  TBD.

  2. “Search engines ‘point people indiscriminately’ towards sources, rather than towards the news’ local paper which should have the most authoritative article.”  This assumes that indiscriminate sourcing is bad and that the local paper does have the most pertinent reporting.

Good luck AP.

Yaz Birth Control “Clarity” Commercial

Posted by: calabrog In: Television

Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals must have been in boiling water. I was watching something on TV and got hit with this piece of work. Can’t for the life of me understand what she is clarifying. When a commercial starts with, “The FDA wants us to clarify a few points” you need to get your money back from your ad agency.
